Not as Safe as Thanksgiving

It is frightening to me that the message that we get from the media seems to always only include one single statistic at a time. The statistic for now (Early February 2022) is that COVID is past the peak and the Infection Level is falling.

But if they even extended their look to a second statistic, we might all know that the Infection Level is still extremely high.

Above is an alternate statistic to drive that home. For my family, we decided that we were all safe enough to enjoy a full family gathering for Thanksgiving. So the new statistic that is shown above is the multiple of cases in each state and the US in total at the end of January 2022 compared to the end of November 2021.

Sounds pretty simple. Those ratios are outrageous! On the average for the entire US, the ratio is almost 8x!!!

For Florida, the ratio is 48x!!! Texas is only 19x. California is 23x!!! The lowest, Maine, is still at 1.8x!!

So yes, things are technically better. But they are still MUCH, MUCH WORSE than they were last Thanksgiving.

Some will respond to this by telling that Omicron is much less dangerous than pervious variants. That may well be but according to today’s New York Times, it is still much more dangerous in the U.S. than in other developed nations:

So COVID infections are still are a very high level and COVID is still dangerous.

  1. For the first time since all this started, I have personally known at least one person with active COVID every day since right after Christmas. This variant is crazy contagious, and nobody in my part of the country is doing anything to mitigate anymore.
